Anonymous asked: What are your religious beliefs, and why?

I was raised in Catholicism. My family considered themselves Catholic until about two and a half years ago, when they started calling themselves Christians after I brought them to Community Baptist Church. I had a brief period before Anime Expo 2010 that made me get involved with that Church because I had no friends - I had just left high school and was only taking night courses at the community college.

That stopped almost right after AX. I had friends, I didn’t need to find any at Church, where everything was stuffy and God Kids did God Camp and ate up the paper pages of a Bible I never understood even in all 13 years of strict Catholic school. School which made me attend Catholic Church every single Friday for nine years, school which put me in uniforms so that I wouldn’t get bullied and then turned an eye to the bullying I got when I came out as bisexual in seventh grade. School in which a classmate of mine got to drag me down the hall until I twisted my ankle and my knees stung with tile burn, and there was no reprimanding because it was “after school hours”. School in which they took out the boys and put in more girls with catty attitudes, girls who laughed at me for my lack of knowledge on sex and drugs and crime, nuns who told me that being gay was okay as long as they never kissed and never married and never lived life like us. School that taught me never to question, always to pray, and that guilt was far more powerful than any detention.

I believe in God. I believe in Heaven and angels. I believe whatever I must believe in to carry on with a life in which I can deal with death, pain, hunger and my own personal losses and failures. I believe that everyone is entitled to believe what they want to believe, as long as they don’t try to convert me. I do not try to convert others. Whatever you are believing in has worked this long, so keep doing it.
